PLAY CARDFIGHTERS ON THE NET!

NOTE: THIS WAS MADE IN 2007, the patch was for old OCTGN.
I have not worked on a new patch for OCTGN need people to work on it.
Send an email if interested.

1. First you need to download OCTGN (Card Table Gaming Network interface) here

Use the setup file to install it. When you first run OCTGN it may ask you to locate the master database. Just click on the empty.mdb and click ok.

2 . Next, download the image/spoiler patch

Put the CC_spoiler_en and the LargeJPG folder into a folder called 'Cardfighters' somewhere on your harddisk (desktop, or temp, doesn't matter as long as you know where it is).

3. Run OCTGN, Click GAME > DATABASE > LOAD NEW CARDS.

Find the folder 'Cardfighters' where you put the files and look for CC_spoiler_en. Select it, and click 'Open'.
The program will ask if its okay to load the new cards click 'Yes'.

You should see something like this if you have done it correctly:

Wait a few minutes for it to finish loading and patching.

4. All your cards should be ready now! Click 'Deck editor', click 'New Deck;, use search to find the cards you want, or look through the list. Double click on a card to add one copy, or right click to add several copies. Save the deck, then close the deck editor.

5. To find an opponent, go to #OCTGN on IRCstorm. Or, you can play against any friend with an IP address and open port, click 'GAME', CONNECT, type in the IP and port, uncheck spectator mode, and click 'ok'. If you have any problems, you can ask us at #OCTGN on IRCstorm.

EXTRAS:

If you want your backgrounds to look like the original game, you can load these into GAME> 'theme' :

Background

Cardback:

Or you can create any theme. Click GAME > More Options > Theme, and you can choose the directory to the images you want to use for the card back, and background.

Notes on release:
You can change your starting life total in the program, but the default is 20. The card text has been modified to reflect this: all the BP have had two zeros taken off, to make it easier to play (card art still has original BP values). The program OCTGN makes it easy to take off one or 2 points of HP at a time using the + - button, but not 100, so that was the main case in changing the BP values.

Getting started:

Feel free to settle whatever rules you want to use with your friends. For a quick starting game, without having to already have made any decks, try this:

  1. Right-click your name on the screen, (such as where you see 'Ryu' in the above pic)
  2. Click 'Sealed Deck'
  3. Under the category 'Booster', double-click 'Card Clash' 6 times and click 'Ok'
  4. Your opponent should 'Accept' the Sealed Deck game.
  5. Now you both have 66 cards opened to build a deck from, double click to select what you wish to put in your deck. If you want to take something out of your deck, double-click it again in the left hand list. When you are happy with your deck, click 'Load'
  6. Now when your opponent is ready, you can begin playing! Click 'Flip a coin' and pick heads or tails to determine who starts.
  7. Play under the rules you already know. Battle!

Rules & Basics

Here are the rules in brief if you haven't played
  • You can play one character a turn
  • You can have a maximum of 3 of your own characters in the ring at a time.
  • There is no cost to playing a character, but there may be conditions to playing them (put your cursor over the text on the card to read more about the card. There may be stuff that happens when it comes into play, like that you have to K.O. a character, etc).
  • You can play one backup on a character a turn. A backup increases a characters BP by 300 and is then discarded.
  • Each player can attack once in their turn, characters may attack singularly (by themselves) or in a unified attack (which is more powerful, as the damage is carried over to the opponent if the blocker has a lesser BP).
  • You may block an opponents attack with one character per attack, and per unified attack.
Here are some rules screenshots from the NGPC version:

YOU CAN HELP!

If people start playing, next release fixes:

  • Working on the actual text spoiler for corrections.
  • Adding the card text on the Large picture, will make it easier to read. *REALLY NEEDED
  • BP value should be listed first, SP second, possibly on seperate lines.
  • Adding symbols on spoiler text so you can see it under the small image.

YOU CAN HELP!
Help me work on the spoiler (it's a text file). When spoiler is complete, work on JPEGs adding text below card like the above image.
Question, suggestions, post here , or send here.

Make a spoiler!
It's easy to make. Just look at the .txt file inside the zip, and add cards/change text in the appropriate place. Full card pics available here at Sprite Database so feel free to make a patch.

Thanks to Insertcredit for mentioning this :), and the people who I have been in touch with about this project.

If you enjoy the game, and are too lazy/busy to help, or wanna make me hurry up and perfect the patch, donations welcome.
Thanks ^_^.
